Tax Rebate Update Brochure and Multi-Media Marketing Materials
Beginning in May 2008, over 130 million Americans will receive a one-time tax rebate from the IRS. These rebates will total tens of billions of dollars. In a press release dated April 1, 2008, the IRS requested that the nonprofit sector assist in informing the public about the economic stimulus payments. Most persons are eligible for the tax rebate, but they must file a 2007 income tax return to receive it—even if they do not normally file a tax return.
Based on a recent Associated Press poll, some 4% of Americans say they plan to give billions of dollars to charity from rebate refunds not needed for other purposes. This is exciting news and has lead many to wonder how many donors might decide to make charitable gifts using rebate funds if they were asked.
Make sure your donors are aware of the upcoming tax rebates—and encourage them to make a difference by directing all or a portion of these funds for charitable purposes. While the wealthiest constituents may be phased out of the tax rebate due to high income levels, most organizations’ core group of donors will receive tax rebate checks. For many of these recipients, the rebate funds will amount to unexpected discretionary income and could be an excellent source of additional charitable gift dollars.
